[VAC] Re: Argosy price

Carrie:

I bought my 75 Argosy 26 18 months ago. I looked on the internet at trailers
all over the country. The going rate for an Argosy 26 in good shape at the
time was $5,500, a price I saw maybe a half-dozen times. Mine was advertised
at that price, in excellent condition--new carpet, waterpump, 3-way Dometic,
awning, and electric jack. Everything else very clean and in great shape.
Needed caulking and a soft spot in the floor repaired. Paint a bit iffy, but
polished up nicely. I made an offer of $3,000, which I thought rediculosly
low, but ended up with it for that price from a very motivated buyer who was
about to move and had already sold his tow vehicle. So I would say right
around $5k is the going asking price for a good one. I'm fulltiming in mine
right now, and am delighted with it. Don't know how the price compares with
a 26' silver airstream in similar condition, but from lurking on the list,
it doesn't seem like there's a huge price differential. Main advantage to an
argosy, in my view, is 1) those great big wraparound front windows 2) no
delaminating vistaviews 3) No bare aluminum to either oxidize or polish.
Disadvantages are that it doesn't have the cachet of the silver ones, or the
fine woodwork inside, but other than that, it's every inch an airstream.

Good luck with yours!
