Tom and Laurie:
Your best bet for a long-term repair and color change is probably to paint
the bathroom with a two-part epoxy paint.  They're most commonly available
at marine stores such as West Marine.  A sprayed application works
best--just make sure you wear your respirator and clean up your sprayer
immediately.
