[VAC] Fridge on the Fritz

Hello all!
My husband and I recently purchased a 1971 Overlander. It's in great
condition inside and out. Everything was working fine until recently. I
opened my fridge and found the element completely iced over and the
freezer was one big block of ice. I defrosted and checked the temp
controls. Within a day or so it was back to being iced over. I'm not
quite sure what the problem is.  
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
