[VAC] Vintage Airstream Parts

Susan, Phoebe and I are vacationing this week with my brother who lives
in New Orleans. On the way I made a side trip to RV Repair & Sales
(Billy Pollard's) in Jackson, MS -- the only Airstream dealer in
Mississippi. I had heard that he had a large inventory of Airstream
parts for vintage trailers. Spent the morning looking through a 1977
parts catalog with the parts manager who was very interested in being
helpful. The good news is that they do have some new old parts
(including a few replacement refrigerator doors, vent covers, etc. that
somebody was looking for recently). The bad news is they don't have
nearly as many vintage parts as they had several months ago. I was told
that Billy Pollard sold 57 used Airstreams as a lot about 18 months ago.
Evidently these trailers were being parted out. There was no warehouse
full of miscelleanous used parts that I had been expecting to spend the
day poking through looking for goodies. I may have my A/S dealers mixed
up but the parts manager (Brenda Heil) said Billy Pollard does not have
any salvage type Airstream parts that I was hoping to find. Still might
be worth a try for specific parts. They advertise in the Blue Beret.
Incidentally, they had about 20 new Airstream models on display on the
lot. I saw Airstream had gone back to using real wood in the interiors
for cabinets and bulkheads.
