 If/when you replace the radio, make sure that your batteries are good
and the connections are clean and secure. The Univolt has NO filtering
in it, so depends entirely on the batteries to do that job. Plus, the
batteries regulate the voltage, if they're shot or the connections are
bad, the voltage might go higher than that radio can endure.

As a long-term fix, you might want to consider an Inteli-Power converter
as a replacement for the old UniVolt. Besides a clean, well-regulated
output, it offers advantages in how it treats your batteries.
