When the glass shattered I was able to remove all of it, might need an ice
pick or something to get it loose. The void in the retainer of the glass was
filled with silver colored caulk all the way around, this will maintain the
weather seal on the outer glass that remains. I would not try to break the
inner glass until you return from your trip. remember dont hit it too hard
you only want to break the inner glass.   good luck
