In a word, no. The impala itself is more than enough for that poor little
235 to lug around. Even the next step up, the 283, would be underpowered.
327 should do it, and depending on the year, were available in that chassis.
But your lunch is going to get eaten.

On the other hand, if you never have to climb a hill, have the three-speed
stick, a heavy duty clutch, and a wild rear end gear--4.11 or so--and
weren't going far, the 235 would manage to get you there. But you'd be
running pretty hard, and would pay for your gas savings with valve jobs. I'd
get a different car.

For comparison, I towed a 16' SOB with a Dodge 225 4-speed. Wide open in
third, on a calm day, you could hit 60. In a headwind, I was wide open and
doing about 50. Truck lanes had me down to 40, wide open and screaming at
the top of second gear. And that was in the low-altitude midwest.
