[VAC] Re: Now more Argosy questions

Economy axle ratios in the range of 2.7 to 3.1 are poor for towing.
Performance ratios of 3.7 to 4.3 often are very good for towing without
a severe unloaded gas mileage penalty. There is a wide variety of axle
gear sets available from after market sellers. I bought a set for my '98
F-150 last year for $480 installed from a local hot rod shop. I changed
3.08 to 4.10, I compute that changed the trailer towing (5 speed manual)
capacity from 2200 pounds to 4700 pounds. It had virtually no effect on
gas mileage, and driving is a lot more fun because it has great throttle
response.
