[VAC] Re: Tail Sag Question

Hi Jim,
 Jim,

My '69 Safari had about 1 inch sag below the plastic panels. Means that the
fix is serious and costly and it should have a pretty high deduction in the
cost of the unit. In my case, I would prefer to remove the entire bathroom
and replace the floor up to the first cross brace in front of the holding
tank. The holding tank might be OK, but the holding tank housing is most
likely severely compromised with rust. Another buyer of a unit indicated
$950 or so just for the holding tank repair? The floor is a much more
costly replacement and I'd think it could be more than $1000 if done by a
shop.

I don't think this is what is called tail sag. Sag is when the fasteners
between the upper shell and the frame across the rear separate. It seems to
me that this is exacerbated when the longer units were constructed with
inadequate frame and the frame bent just behind the wheels. What I think
you'll find is that the floor across the entire rear is rotted out. The 4
foot span between the frame rails is too great a distance without the rear
cross brace.

It's certainly restorable, but it is a LOT of work!
