[VAC] Re: A Modest Proposal

A memorial of some sort is very fitting for Bill.

He was a very practical type of guy. I think that he would also want the memorial to be practical. A Rally in his name to be located in various areas of the country is a great idea, I also like the BS Bambi award. The rescue and restoration idea (a very noble one) sounds a bit ambitious unless the main players in this are physically located in the same local area, and not presently in the middle of their own restoration project

Are any of you willing to attend the International to present these ideas to the board? I believe that these ideas will need their approval. Having seen the board in action the last 2 years, I believe that the Award and Rally ideas have the best chance of approval.

The renaming of the concours award for best Bambi should be a no brainer assuming that this is an award that is still given. (The award categories were changed not long ago and I do not remember if this is still a category.)

The Wagon Wheels caravan is in a different location each year because it is tied to the Inernational Rally. It is held the 10 days preceding the WBCCI International Rally. This rally is the largest VAC gathering, the concours is held here along with all the business meetings. Last year while on the Wagon Wheels caravan George Pruitt preceeded Bill Scott, also doing what he loved. The Wagon Wheels Caravan for 2001 was remaned in the Pruitt's honor. I also believe that the board would be willing to rename this caravan (at least for one year) for Bill.

Since the Wagon Wheel is tied to International, it will be located north-central in the US for the forseeable future. If this is not to your liking then anyone of you out there who has some experience (or desire) to plan and run a caravan start thinking of an area of the country that you would like to take a caravan. If we start to get two or three quality caravans planned and present them to the board this July I feel that the board would gladly accept them and the annual Bill Scott Memorial Caravan would become a reality. Heck, this idea might not even need board approval.

I do believe that Bill would like this last idea best out of all. It gives all of us another reason to get our Airstreams on the road, to make friends and enjoy life. All of these are what Bill loved to do, and the reason why he was willing to take his Bambi a thousand miles just to attend a weekend rally.

Timing wise, sometime in August would most likely be best since the VAC already has events in the Spring, Fall, and early Summer.
