OK.  As Dr. G. and Pearl have stated some materials
sink to the bottom of the tank and become essentially paper mache, making
them very hard to dislodge later.

My question is could I just use the procedure of closing the slider valve
once in a while, like every two months instead of making it a way of
life.  I don't want to leave my hatch unlocked and there is a bit of
gardening that makes access every few days impractical.  Can I get
away with occasional procedure?
