Most caps are a friction fit. There should be a ridge next to the hub.
You can pry outward there with a chisel or screw driver. Or get out the
water pump (e.g. channel locks) and grab it top and bottom and rock it
loose. Either way may leave scars on the cap. Protect the cap with a
block of wood or strike it only with the blunt end of the hammer handle
when replacing it.
