Don't want to be argumentative, but 2024 is not weldable. (OK, you can 
weld it, but it will break.) This is why ASs--and airplanes built of 
2024--are riveted.

Not sure about corrosion resistance, but 5052 *is* weldable, though not 
the easiest Al to weld (try 3000 or 1000 series for that). As with any Al 
alloy, workability depends at least as much on the *temper* as on the 
alloy itself. Both 2024 and 5052 are available in a range of tempers, 
whether work-hardened ("H" designations) or heat-tempered ("T" 
designations).
