[VAC] Re: Bowlus For Sale

there was a bowlus for sale in ojai, californa last spring summer. i wonder
if the VAC ought to establish a 'rescue fund' for particularly rare examples
of early airstreams?

i wholeheartedly agree with richard's sentiments, re:
preservation/restoration. this is why, although my '48 Trailwind was
trashed, apparently used as a University of Montana frat-house 'annex' for
at least two or three decades (you wouldn't believe some of the evidence
uncovered during the *painstaking dismantling* {i have all the original
components carefully stashed}of the interior), the changes/modifications i'm
making are being done with an eye toward future 'restoreability'. the
original appliances (minus the missing water heater, probably will be
replaced with the RV 500) will all go into their original positions. the w/c
is an early model monomatic which will be mounted above the floor. i'm not
planning on installing any cabinets or bulkheads other than those require to
hold the appliances... new wiring/plumbing will all be in 'races' above
floor level. in the meantime, i'm planning to fix it up to my own tastes,
and USE the heck out of it. The exterior will be indistinguishable from
original, down to the horizontal worthington, and pipe-frame hitch (archaic
load-distribution hooks happen to work perfectly with the reese).

i'm applying the same philosophy to the 'renovation' of the vintage
tow-vehicle.... unless one looks under the hood, one won't be able to
distinguish it from original.

And, need i remind everyone? one of Byam's favorite aphorisms was, "Never
Leave Well-Enough Alone!"
