I disagree on the safety of aluminum wire. It takes more than
termination care with the outlets used originally. It can be somewhat
safe with outlets rated for aluminum that can accommodate the expansion
of the aluminum wire withe heat, but its never as good as copper. As a
consulting engineer I've seen deaths and fires caused by bad aluminum
wire connections with normal maintenance. Even in new construction.
