[VAC] Re: insulation - heaters - cold climates

Marc--as a former building editor for Better Homes and Gardens publications,
I've kept up on the ventless heater issue pretty well. Your symptoms are
typical of folks that are sensitive to the byproducts of gas combustion. I'd
either replace those heaters in your house or get some more ventilation.
Also install CO2 and monoxide sensors. The toxicity level may be higher than
you think. The catalytics produce the same kinds of combustion byproducts as
the ventless do, so I don't think that's your solution. Best would be a
"balanced combustion" or "direct vent" appliance, which uses outside air for
combustion and vents exhaust gases out as well. There are lots on the
market. Best one scaled for an airstream that I know of is can be seen at
www.dickensonmarine.com. Others on this list have used them and are quite
happy with them.
