[VAC] Re: Polishers

I bought the Milwaukee var. spd. polisher #5540. Very powerful (compare
amperage), has rubber bumpers to keep you from scratching up things if it
gets away from you. Comes with a good heavy rubber backup pad. I like it,
have always had good luck with Milwaukee tools. Ordered from Tool Shack in
Las Vegas, $217.32 delivered to SC. 800-414-6527

I'm now using the Rolite polishes purchased from Midwest Aero Restorations
in IL. Mike VadeBonCoeur, 217-431-1998. (Fax 217-431-8988) Very good
prices. Compare.

I'm using buffing pads from Lake Country Mfg. in Wisconsin (next door
neighbor of Rolite) - 800-648-2833. Ask for Scott. Per his recommendation, I
bought 2 each of 11-111, 31-611, and 31-511. Total cost $43. plus UPS.
When the heavy-cut pad gets loaded up with oxidation, I soak it in a
solution of Purple Stuff (cleaner/degreaser) and warm water in a 5 gal.
bucket, and plunge them with a toilet plunger. Let it soak for an hour or
more. I've even left it overnight. Rinse well, squeeze out excess water,
and put on machine for a quick spin dry. Then air dry over night. Switch to
other clean pad in the meantime.

Lot's more how-to on polishing in the archives.
