[VAC] Re: Norcold N300 refrigerator

When we grudgingly replaced our busted up Dometic in the '65 Caravel it
came down to the Norcold N300 or the Dometic RM2332. Both are the exact
same dimensions and were within $20 of each other. We paid $642 for the
Dometic and $75 shipping from Florida to California. Used our pick-up
to go to the freight terminal and picked it up (residence shipping is
another $75.) Went with the Dometic only because that what was in there
to begin with - I don't know if Norcold was even around in '65.

That's the good news. The bad is that neither of these will fit a
vintage opening recess. See this page to see the fun & games to get it
installed. There is no modern drop-in replacement for the
late'50's/'60's refers.

All the plastic in the frame, door & insides are hard to get used to,
but in the end it looks okay if you squint. Works just fine and has
more capacity than the original. Don't know if the electronics will
last 35 years though.

The door panel is really just a 1/4" piece of plywood in the same
species & finish of wood your galley cabinetry is made of. Ours was
oiled mahogany.

(I'd try and have the original fixed if at all possible).

Best of luck,
