[VAC] Re: A/S Floor Repair
Marc, just a note about the rot around the door. I would think the rot is
from a leak rather than the door being left open. I had rot mostly under the
window adjacent to the door. I found the water was coming in from 5 places.
The body seam leaked overhead and ran down the inside of the outside skin.
The seam along the door frame at the lockset, water wicked between the frame
and skin and ran down the inside of the outer skin.
The helper handle beside the door, water ran in the 2 screw holes and ran
down the inside of the outer skin.
The outdoor light at the door, water ran in between the light frame and the
skin where in ran down to the floor.
The awning, the upper mount at the door was in the rush of water running off
the awning rail, it went in under the mount and down the inside of the outer
skin.
If you haven't made sure there are no leaks, I strongly suggest you do that
before proceeding with any floor repair. Most of my leaks were not apparent
until after I had stripped the floor down to bare wood. After the follr was
bare the leaks would wet the wood and become visible. Keep in mind that the
"U" rail that the outer skin is riveted to makes a very good path for water
to travel down until it finds a hole where it runs out sometimes 3 feet
away. I spent a lot of time with the lawn sprinkler on the roof finding
leaks.
