[VAC] Re: Thermopane Windows

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your kind words. One of your comments was:

>I'm about 9 years from retirement & hope to be doing what you are doing when we retire.>

During the 10 years before we retired, the only thought we gave to goals for the first ten years
after we retired was spending at least a week in every state and province in the USA, Canada and
Mexico.

After retirement we decided that because we had enjoyed "camping" in US Army Corps of Engineers
campgrounds since the 1950s, we'd visit ALL of them. Little did we know there are about a thousand.
So far, we've visited only several hundred. On top of that, we're still working on our National
Monuments list, National Parks list and other lists.

Bottom line to you, Dan. Identifying a few simple goals ahead of time may help planning that first
year when one specific recurring question keeps coming up, "Which way shall we go today?"

Secondly, along the way, opportunities for community service will come to your attention. You know
you'll get involved sooner or later. Whatever interests you most may be what will spark you. When we
go to Mexico, we take school supplies for children and teachers in remote villages. The Aztec Trails
group in Guadalajara shares similar goals and quickly facilitates getting involved.

Here in the states, when we get involved with groups of RVers, we step up to the plate if one of
their goals is to help with a Ronald McDonald House project. True, we pick and choose, and we don't
do everything. We allow serendipity to play a role. Once, when we particularly liked a Park Ranger
in Georgia, we and another Airstream family volunteered to do odd jobs for a week in his state park.

The fact that we have an old Airstream has never been lost on anyone, nor has the fact we are
restoring it with great enthusiasm. Does that make any difference. Probably not. But then again,
maybe it does. With that in mind, perhaps today (01/01/01) is a good time for one or two New Year's
Resolutions.

Warm holiday wishes, Terry
