[VAC] Re: deadbolt

Door frame strength is part of the reason, On my 70 next to the door also
seemed more convenient. Since the door frame is not as thick, many
people, myself included, cut the dead bolt lengh wise so it is about 1/2
thickness so the entry hole in the door is not so large. You also don't
have to deal with the screen door as you mentioned.
I installed the deadbolt primarily as protection against failure of the
original lock. Since this is a suicide door failure on the road could
damage the trailer. I understand the 70 door handles are no longer
available and replacement costs can run several hundred dollars as the
parts are custom made.

I do not use the original lock , just the deadbolt. I seem to recall the
key blanks for the original are hard to find also.
