[VAC] Re: Airstream Floor Restoration

Michael,
As you noted there is a lengthy thread going right now on flooring
replacement if you have the shell off the body. That's the only way to
replace the entire floor as it is captured between the shell and frame.

As for repairs, check out the VACList archives
(http://www.TomPatterson.com) for many discussion related to repairing
floors by cutting out and replacing interior sections or fixing small
rotted areas with products such as Git Rot" and epoxy wood fillers.

There is a small amount of asbestos in the floor tiles, but is of the
particulate size that if you take care in minimizing dust and damage to
the tiles and use a respirator, your exposure would be minimal.

As for the insulation, Airstream used fiberglass from the beginning -
but still a good idea to use a respirator because it is some nasty old
stuff, and the dust and mouse poop doesn't help things.

Out of curiosity, do you have 1958 Flying Cloud, or a 1948 Liner?
