[VAC] Central Vacuum Systems

Hi Scott & Lise,

Yes, back in the 1970s, central vacuum systems were installed in some Airstreams. We have one in our
1977 31' Excella 500 (rear bath). It was made by Shop Vac Corporation in Williamsport, PA 17701.
I've used it once or twice a week for the last four months and have replaced the filter. They are
often obtainable in hardware stores (Part # SV903-19).

Back when we bought this Airstream, the vacuum cleaner was an incidental feature that just happened
to come with the trailer. My attitude then was, "ho hum - big deal." Buuuutttt, it has turned out to
be a real convenience. Plus, our 1500 watt Inverter is more than sufficient to run the vacuum off
our three deep cycle, marine batteries, anytime, anyplace. The greatest benefit to us occurs while
boondocking in the sandy southwest desert and yes, we still love our three 20 year old solar panels.

Cheyanne, if you need a replacement hose, Shop Vac may have one in stock. Rattle their cage, huh?

Later,

Terry

PS - WBCCI & VAC members Carl & Cindy Johnson from Maine are here with us at the Escapees RV Park in
Yuma, Arizona. We've been sharing experiences and restoration fixes, identifying opportunities
throughout Southern California and Arizona, enjoying daily visits and viewing Christmas lights
together. For the last three months, we've been leap frogging with them across the continent and
never knowing where or when we'd meet next. It's a small world indeed.
