[VAC] Re: Bill Scott/ 'Git Rot'?
Jim,
You just drill out the old rivets and the panel will fall to the ground.
Get a good pop-rivet tool (I have a Stanley with a swivel head plus an
air-operated one) and a couple of boxes of rivets from your local hardware
store. You'll need 1/8" diameter in both 1/8" and 1/4" reach, plus maybe a
couple of boxes of 3/16" rivets of the same lengths. The latter are for
sloppy holes; you can drill them out and use the larger rivets.
The side skins are fastened with bucked rivets; repairs involve using
Olympic rivets. These are a round-headed pop-rivet that require you to use
either a rivet shaver or a Dremel tool to remove the end of the "pull nail"
after setting it.
