[VAC] Re: (VAC) Deadbolts

Suicide Doors hinge on the aft side of the door, so that they open into
traffic (Lincoln Continentals) or into the airflow at speed. Probably
called suicide doors because if you can imagine the door of either
opening while whizzing down the highway, your door is going to rip right
off or fold back at least, and there you are looking at the pavement.

Our Caravel had a service bulletin to install a small dot on the
deadbolt, and instructions to "lock to the dot" before driving.

As for deadbolts, most of the old Airstreams had 'em, it wasn't until
the panic lock scare of late that deadbolts fell out of favor. See the
following web pages to see both the door and the deadbolt.
