[VAC] Re: Tires

We just replaced the tires on our '66 Caravel. Originally they came with
8-ply nylon. Now the choices included 8 ply bias (nylon) in a 6.70 x 15
size (which I think that RJ has said gives 1/4 inch clearance) and a 205/75
15 (radial) in a 6 ply. The 6 ply has a 1800 lb limit; the 8 ply about
2200. The trailer weighs 2250 lbs empty (according to the manual). The
tire folks said that the 6-ply would acutally be better because of the steel
belts - these would do a better job of keeping gravel from puncturing the
tire (at least on the tread face). The smaller tire gives more wheelwell
clearance, but less ground clearance. So, did I make the right decision -
are the 6-ply tires adequate? In advance, thanks for your comments!
