[VAC] Re: Creative air conditioning Installation

I installed the Duro Therm, "Cool Cat" heat pump which both heats and
cools. It is classified as a "nominal 12,000 btu" unit. It is installed
in 1 16ft, '56 Bubble. Since it is fully enclosed and insulated the
noise is about the same as the old Armstrong unit in my '78, 30ft,
Argosy. When in use you get used to the noise rapidly. The noise level
could be helped if the unit had a two speed fan instead of the single
speed. Maybe it does by now. Most of the noise is fan noise. The Cool
Cat heats if the outside air is a 40 degrees or above. Haven't used that
as a little cube heater will heat the bubble in about 10 minutes with
very little sound. The heat pump really is nothing more then an air
conditioner that reverses its operation to create/pull heat out of the
air. However, if I were to do it again I would do as the Preston Pierson
did. as outlined in the Vintage newsletter of summer 2000. I suspect I
would opt for a 10,000 btu unit however as these older model trailers
and not well insulated and you know it living in the southwest. I am
interested in how Preston's 4200 btu unit cools his trailer.
