[VAC] Re: RV and the DISH

Philip: No, you don't need DirecTV or Dish Network's permission to watch when
away from home. The only thing that will restrict you is watching pay-per-view
programs since you will not be connected to a phone line. If you do connect via
campground line or cell phone modem, DirecTV may detect that you are not at home
and asked if you have moved/may shut you off. Pay-per-view can be ordered via
1-800 number or if you are going to be away only a short time, you can watch the
pay-per-view directly and reconnect to a phone line when at home. The receiver
will dial in at night to update the billing order. If you are away for a period
of time, the memory for PPV storage will fill and not allow further PPV
approvals. Probably best to use the 800 number or no PPV at all.
I take my Dish Receiver along all the time, and it works fine. I have attached a
roof mount crank up dish with the verticle read out LCD meter for easy satellite
location. Also, these dishes work for either the DirecTV or Dish Network.
Camping World carries them.
For those of you interested in high speed, broad band Internet access, Radio
Shack is offering a dish through DirectTV (Dish also is offering same) through
Gilat and MSN which allows two way, high speed satellite Internet connection
with speeds up to 748K upload and 1.5Mb download for about $60 per month.
Imagine boondocking while watching streaming videos. This dish is larger than
the 18" DirecTV/Dish units though. Might be a challenge to put one on the roof.
