[VAC] Re: Creative air conditioning Installation

The rear window of my '63 Avion has two release levers that allow it to be
removed completely, leaving just a bare frame. I haven't yet needed A/C,
but if I ever do, and will have access to electrical hookups, I plan to
carry a small window unit in the back of my van, and put it into the rear
window frame when parked. It should be fairly easy to make a plywood shroud
to fit the window frame, and support brackets that rest on the bumper or the
spare tire, or maybe angle brackets that rest against the outside wall. I
don't know if any vintage Airstreams have this type of window, but I would
imagine that an existing window could be replaced with a new one, or a
salvaged used one.

I think a window A/C would have worked in one or more windows of my (former)
'65 Caravel without modification, just by opening the window all the way and
removing the screen. Problems with this solution are stowing the A/C unit
while under way, and installing/removing it as needed. However, it requires
little or no modification to your trailer, and the unit can be left at home
when not needed.
