Check it out first. It
could as easily be burned contact points in the thermostat or even a loose wire.
The wiring is dead-simple, just a common (white) wire to the element, with the
Hot wire going through the gas/electric selector switch, then through the
thermostat and on to the other lead on the element.
Someone else mentioned checking for power at the plug, be sure
to do that before getting too carried away with fancy
troubleshooting.
