Re: [VAC] Grey Water Tank - Help

Great news. I read my service manual one more time and it said before
removing the belly pan to disconnect the drain line. I figured out that the
main drain pipe was under the shower pan and I removed the 3" round heater
vent and with a flash light I could see a 2" line going through the floor.
This must be the drain line I though but as I moved the heater duct around I
found the real main drain line off to the side. As I shinned my flash light
on it I knew where the problem was. The main drain line is connected to the
holding tank by a 2" 45 degree female/male elbow fitting. The male end
inserts in to the plastic holding tank and is secured with a clamp. Well at
least that is how it was at some point and time. The drain pipe and the
holding tank had separated and when water came through the pipe most of it
just flowed out on top of the tank and collected in the belly pan and leaked
out the seams. I though well this will be simple to fix, just reconnect the
two. Wrong. At best I could only get the drain pie to insert in the tank
pipe about an 1/8 of an inch. Over time something must have shifted and
there was no more give in the tank or pipe. I was able to cut the drain pipe
just ahead of the 45 degree fitting and I am going to put in a new fitting
with a longer piece of 2" PVC to extend down in the tank. I did fill my
holding tank with a water hose just to make sure there were no leaks and it
has not leaked a drop.

As I said, this has probably been like this for sometime. However from the
time I bought the trailer in early June I have been refurbishing it. The
short shake down trip last week was our first time out when I discovered the
leak. There is one other problem that I don't know what to do about. The
tank was wrapped in the pink insulation , which now is just a soggy mess. I
guess it will eventually dry out.

Thanks for everyone's input, without it I probably would have just pulled
the trailer over to the RV guy earlier this week and been out a lot of
money. By continuing to check this out after reading all the responses I was
able to find the real problem and as it turns out it was something much
simpler that I could fix. Thanks again.
