Re: [VAC] Air Cond (another tack)

Rob,

This portable air conditoner is considerably cheaper than the Toyotomi I have
which cost $850 spring of '98. It is also 1,000 more Btu and the dispersion
of condensate out the hot air exhaust looks good. That is the method the
Delonghi portables use. Mine drains either into a frequently emptied
container or through a hose separate from the hot air exhaust. I route the
drain hose into the shower drain of my Caravel.

On the plus side, my Toyotomi cooled fine on a recent camping trip to Jekyll
Island, GA with humidity near 100% and temperature in the high nineties. It
would bring the inside down to 88 during the hottest part of the day and to
the comfortable seventies at night.

I have no regrets about not putting a rooftop pod atop my little Caravel.
Since it didn't have one when I bought it I just didn't want to cut the roof
and for me, it was the right decision.

I think the low profile DuoTherm, when mounted correctly like on Tom
Howarth's '53 Flying Cloud, looks the best of any rooftop unit and gives good
service should a person want a space saving permanent installation.
