Re: [VAC] replacing exterior skin panels

Tuna,.....be careful, you are on thin ice. Is your clipper one of those
transition jobs with a rounded rear, and oval window, and the front is
flat like a loaf of bread and a standard rectangular window? In either
case, your best bet , since you live in Reno, the home of the "Reno Air
Races", is to look at the local airports for the right kind of Aluminum
mechanic. Since your segments are flat, and cut like pie segments, if
you find the right aircraft craftsman, he will be able to use the old
piece as a pattern, and cut new ones. Use your old segments as a guage
also for thickness. This is a speciality craft and not for beginners.
You might try talking to a few local sheet metal shops, and they might
know some old timers still in the business. Airports are a good place
to start.
