No I never did. So of course I threw caution to the wind and hit it with my
flux core welder. I would love to say that I did a good looking job (the
best beads were the last) but it *seemed* to work well. I noticed welding
around the hitch area (tank mount,hitch,chains battery box) I was not all
that concerned anyway as this was a bonus piece and was within about 2 feet
of the back bumper so if I weakened the frame some there it would not have
been that big a deal. One could do the spark test on it I guess. I am not
sure of any way to tell for sure that literature of the time that might
mention "durable heat treated frame" or "super strong carbon steel frame" I
would try to find out before I got carried away welding somewhere else.
