Hi Chris,
Had same problem over a year and a half ago. As I was trouble shooting
the furnace on a cold morning, nearly naked, a melon sized fireball
slowly rolled out from under the furnace toward the bedding.
The small line that supplies the pilot was leaking where it threads into
the control unit. The LP filled the bottom of the firebox and ignited
when the burner turned on, usually popping the pilot out. (It's in the
manual too.)  Had to use crow's foot wrench on an extension. A saline
solution bottle works good to squirt soapy water on the connection when
you restart the unit and again when it's hot. (Mine only leaked when it
was hot.) Had same problem with the water heater.
