Re: [VAC] Univolt Converter

Ed,
There are differences in the UniVolt converters used by Airstream. I
have 2 entirely different units here, both labeled "UniVolt".

If yours is one of the ferro-resonant jobs, there's almost no need for a
schematic, they're that simple. A transformer, 3 capacitors, and 2 pairs
of diodes. One of mine is like that, the other uses an SCR or Triac with
a little control board to drive the gate.

You might try the manufacturer whose name is on the box.

In any event, if it is bad, you might consider using a StatPower battery
charger. They sell their 20 amp outfits from their web site for under
#200.00; they're MUCH better for charging/maintaining your battery than
a regular converter, especially the old UniVolts. Go to
http://www.statpower.com for details.
