CDX is the bottom of the barrel. Neither side is sanded, the C side is
plugged part of the time, the D side isn't plugged. The middle layer(s)
has no plugs so the surface is easily smashed into an interior cavity.
I've seen 1/2" in 3 or 4 ply where good ACX plywood would be at least 5
ply, always an odd number of plies. The glue in sheathing grade CDX is
not rated for continuous moisture, just occasional moisture.
