I wish this letter were not formatted, but I have used both metal and
plexi roof vents. I have also used smoked plexi, which I found best where
direct sun is strong. Overall I would opt for the stock aluminum
vents. When the curtains on my 66 Safari are open there is more than
enough light and the protection from the elements is much more dependable.
Tree branches tend to crack plexi but not aluminum.
There is also the idea that a faithful restoration uses stock components
whenever possible.
