[VAC] replacement roof vent

Hi folks,

Does anyone have experience with the original style
vents and operators on the early Globetrotters (1959)?
Mine has two vents, both with squared off corners -
one 14x14 and the other 14x22...

I bought two new vents and a set of operators from
Classic RV and am not sure if they attach directly to
the operators or if there is supposed to be something
between them, such as a metal frame or something... 
My originals are long gone...

It looks like they may just attach to the operators
with three rivets, but they don't seem to fit just
right that way...  and the operators seem to be too
long, so that the vents are up too high even when the
operators are completely closed.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this ???
