[VAC] Airstream Newcomer

Hello from Arizona:
My husband, Arden and I, bought an older ('69) ambassador last summer
and are 
just beginning to get into RVing.  This trailer has needed some loving
care 
and will also need the exterior refinished. Is this something we can do?
or 
is it necessary to have it professionally done?  Would appreciate all
input 
on this subject.  We're looking forward to joining the rallies and
caravans 
in our area (southwest and northwest) and meeting others who have airstreams.
