Nick, the copper is very soft.  You may have cut the tubing in an area where 
it is still deformed (stretched) from the freeze rupture.

Wrap a narrow strip of paper around the new tubing and mark it's 
circumference.  Do the same in an area of the trailer where the old tubing 
didn't suffer a problem and compare.  Most likely they will be the same 
circumference.
