Not necessarily so. If this clear section is on the side, it is the normal
lens used as a tail light/ license plate light. There is a matching one with
no red section that is harder to find. We use the ones with the red section
on some of our commercial trucks. If it is a clear section facing the rear,
it is a back up light combination similar to the early Corvairs. Also not
illegal. If it is the rearward facing one, try putting a piece of red
Plexiglas inside.
