Re: [VAC] Breakaway switch

Greetings Polly!

Your '64 should have a breakaway switch. It is a small cylindrical device
mounted behind the coupler on your trailer's "A" frame. Wire(s) come out
the rear of the cylinder and attach to the trailer's wiring harness - - a
steel pin sticks out of the front and has a cable, chain, or similar method
of connecting to the tow car. The device is powere by the trailer's
battery and when the steel pin is pulled your trailer brakes are applied
full-force. If your original breakaway switch has been replaced with the
more modern type, it may be a smallish black plastic box with similar
connections to the trailer's wiring harness and the tow vehicle.

I thought that the original style cylinder breakaway switches were no
longer available, but my Airstream dealer located a new cylinder type that
is now on the "A" frame of my '64 Overlander.
