Re: [VAC] Polishing
Mark: I have just completed polishing my '56 Bubble. I used a polisher,
DeWalt model 849, variable speed from 1000 to 3500 rpm. Mostly used the
1000 and 1400 speeds. It is not obrbital. It did a fine job once I got in
a little practice. One of the things I liked was that the motor is set up
that it runs at the same rpm, in other words it doesn't lug down/slow down
when pressure is applied thus you maintain an even rotation of the pads and
a lot less work for yur wrists. Polisher was about $170.00 and was
recommended by an experienced airplane polisher. My unit had 44 years of
oxidation built up so I ended up using three different levels of polish
and got a nice mirror finish. I used products from Rolite Co. Incidently
used a different kind of pad for each polish. It was a messing, dirty job,
and a lot of work but I am pleased with the results. Contact me off list
if you want more details.
