Re: [VAC] Need Flag Holder
Hi Tom,
Tom, the choices are 3X5 and 4X6. If you get
flimsy poles, then go with 3X5 because 4X6
flags will bend the poles on a windy day.
Make sure the holder and poles are aluminum.
Part of the size choice is personal preference.
I like the looks of 4X6 flags on our 22' trailers.
Some folks think differently. I like having a
flag collection to use for different occasions
and I've found a wider selection in 4X6 flags.
Some folks prefer the using the same flags
on all occasions.
While you are at it, get PVC pipe (3-4" dia.) in
a length long enough to install under your
Airstream in back of or in front of the wheels.
I use large hose clamps and attach them to
the frame members with bolts (after I thread
the holes I've just drilled into the frame,
plus I use lock tight on the bolts, too).
Put a cap on both ends and voila - flag pole
storage. I use wooden caps on both ends
because I can cut out wooden circles easily.
I drill two holes in the PVC (about 1" in) on the side
where I want access to the flag poles so a 4" lock
pin will easily fit, then I secure it with a spring
cotter pin to keep the lock pin in place. I use string
on the cotter pin and attach the other end to the
lock pin so the cotter pin is always handy and not
hiding in thedirt. On the non-access side, I glue the
cap in place permanently and paint it silver. All in
all, it makes for a neat and convenient way to carry
my three flag poles. I'm sure others ideas abound.
Another option is to buy a hose carrier already
made up and just install it. I tried that once and
the part that attached to our Airstream's under
belly did not match up the the lengthwise frame
members and I could only use the underbelly skin
as an anchor point. It fell off on a bumpy road.
Another option is to position the hose carrier
in back of the gas bottles, but if this area is
where a battery is carrier, maybe not.
Another option is to position the hose carrier
over the rear bumper. My imperative is to never
add weight in that area, not even 5 pounds.
Tom, this is more answer than your question asked.
You know the drill, take what you want and delete
the rest,
Terry
