The furnace fan runs on 12 volt system as does the thermostat.  If the
battery was low, it would not work.  But when plugged in to 120 volt it
would run on the converter (if you have one, if not, I have no idea).
 
You should test the furnace.   You can run the furnace at home to save it
from freezing.  I do that.  But I plug it in to 120.  The furnace will run
down my battery quickly without the 120.
