Re: [VAC] Introducing Myself & my 1966 Safari
Alex, Since I am compleatly rebuilding my trailer
I have been looking around at all the many options for power. I am leaning
very hard in the solar direction. In fact it is almost certain I will instal
at least a minamal system for 12v use. I don't use TVs ,micro waves, and some
of the other luxuries that some folks like to have,so I don't need a big
system. If my habbits change I can allways upgrade with little or no hassle.
I have a generator that I bring along for motorcycle rallies in the middle of
no where to help power the stage equipment for the entertainment. Other than
that, I leave the generator at home since listening to it gets on my nerves
so I know it gets on others nerves. There are a number of appliances like
coffee makers,TVs,VCRs,and such that work on 12v with out an inverter to
change 12v to 110v. So that is argument for solar. Most of the 12v powered
goodies can be found at truck stops more easily than through RV places. I
wonder why? The longhaul trucker use the items alot so they must work. The
solar systems also come in sizes from, just a dashtop trikle charger that
plugs into your cigarette lighter socket to multi panneled - multi batteried
monters that will run your entire house if you want. The prices seem a little
on the high side but if use consider mantainance cost. Mantainance cost?
HAHAHA! What maintance cost. The fact that it is totally quiet and the fuel
is free (until the government figgures a way to tax it) albeat limeted to day
use only, I think solar is a great option. The down side of solar is if you
want megga power you will get megga battery weight. And when night comes you
done making juice, just using it. Oh, Gee,...what a horrible inconveniance. I
hope this helps. Trike #5384
