Re: [VAC] catalytic furnace
Gas heaters put out three major products of complete combustion. One, of
course is heat, this is why we use them. The second is Carbon Dioxide (CO2),
not poisonous, but not what humans are meant to breath either. Always have a
source of fresh air available, crack a window, etc. The third is water vapor,
to the tune of approx. eleven (11) gallons per 1,000 cubic feet of gas
burned. This is an awful lot of moisture to be released inside a confined
space.
Now, if your heater is not burning correcty, you can get in-complete
combustion. The three major products of in-complete combustion are soot,
aldehydes (a particularily toxic & nasty-smelling chemical compound) and
Carbon Monoxide, which is of course, toxic, odorless, tatseless and colorless.
This is why heaters that are vented to the outside are inherently safer than
non-vented types. Should something go wrong, the fumes will mostly be vented
to the outside.
