The little ones work just fine, in fact I have several commercial customers
who are using them as business radios around hospitals, school campuses,
etc.   They ARE limited to one channel, but do have selectable quiet codes
which will reduce interference in a crowded area.  The basic ones are also a
bit more range limited..1 mile vs. 2, but that's not usually an issue in a
campground, but might be if you want to use them for activities that cover a
wider area.  On the other hand, the lower powered units will have a longer
battery life, so it's a "pays 'yer money & takes 'yer choice" situation.
