Don,
 My pump is held down with 4 screws and it was a 2-minute job to pull it
out. I set it on the bench and connected a hose the the suction port,
dropped it in a bucket of water, and tested it. Put my thumb over the
outlet port to see if it built pressure OK.

You're essentially describing a 'Bench Test' without the bench. :-)
